Quizmasters in London
This blog, unlike previous insights is not to promote the various services we provide but instead to do what all businesses in the entertainment industry should do occasionally and that’s to step back, catch our breath and celebrate a small section of our roster of Quizmasters – those that work within the metropolis that is London.
Quick note from me: If you are looking for a quiz master in London check out our Pub Quiz Master page on the website.
We don’t just host in London
We host quizzes all over the UK and employ professional Quizmasters for each and every one of them. We’ve hosted quiz nights in private members clubs, restaurants, hotels, birthday parties, weddings, office board rooms, sports centres, tents, festivals, building sites, schools and scout huts. Of course, let’s not forget the vast number of pubs that choose to use us week in, week out.
Although, in the broadest sense the “product” (an evening of brain taxing fun, excitement and trivia) remains the same, each venue, weekly event, party or team build develops and takes on a personality and character all its own. Nowhere is this truer than in the Capital.
The general hustle and bustle, congestion, pace of life, density of population and businesses, whilst in themselves not unique, combine in a way to create something a little bit different.
I should add that this is no way denigrates or belittles the work that our hosts do across the country and no doubt in the weeks and months to come we’ll shine the spot light on different venues, parts of the country, profiles of quizmasters and players so quizmasters away from “the old smoke” … your time will come!
So, what makes London different?
If you’ve lived or worked here for any given length of time you’ll soon conclude that “London” is not an entity, it’s more like a collection of small towns, districts and villages fused together into the capital. As you travel around (and by car it can take as much as a couple of hours to cross from one side to the other) there’s always something new to discover. For instance, Peckham, Brixton, Bow, Chelsea, Fulham, St Johns Wood, the City of London, the West End, Harrow are completely different in terms of custom, amenities, transport, commerce, population and architecture.
Congestion is another issue – the roads can be clogged and not just in rush hour – and parking sometimes is costly, that’s if you can find a space! Although that is largely balanced by an excellent urban public transport network, pity the poor quizmaster trying to get themselves along with a professional speaker/amplifier, microphone and possibly a laptop or tablet to a venue.
The great work our quizmasters (or hosts as we prefer to call them) do needs to be recognised. Their job does not start and end when the quiz does of course. We generally use stand up comedians or trained actors or similar entertainers as our hosts (we even have an “iron man” sports man on the books) several of whom have TV, radio or Edinburgh fringe credits and with London being a focal point for entertainment (indeed it was the birth place of the now national comedy circuit and it has a thriving west End and Fringe Theatre) we are blessed with an abundance of talent.
Thanks to all of our fantastic quiz masters!
So, to all the Quiz hosts across the capital who tonight will be driving, or on a bus or the tube or even walking and cycling to deliver a fun evening of quizzing to the delight of our many thousands of regular quizzers pause – just for a second – take a breath and smile – you have our thanks for the great work you do.
You can find a small selection of our Quizmasters on our hire a quizmaster page.
Best wishes,
The weekly Quiz Team.
